Vive Tracker Airsoft Gun Recoil (floating issues)

Re: Vive Tracker Airsoft Gun Recoil (floating issues)

@PramodPatel we are experiencing a very similar issue. We have attached a tracker to a pole which is being tracked in VR for a mining safety simulation built in Unity. The pole is used to "dislodge" loose rocks and it undergoes quite a lot of shock as it is hit on the walls and roof of a custom container we have built. Obviously, the pole flying away is disconcerting in this context.

We are exploring dampening the vibration/shock with absorbers used on drones, however, I am very interested in whether you found a way to resolve this (hardware/software)? Is there any benefit added through using the new SteamVR 2.0 base stations and Vive Tracker 2018?

Re: Vive Tracker Airsoft Gun Recoil (floating issues)

@darcohen, the tracker 2018 firmware does not currently support the low pass filter option that's supported on the most recent firmware version of the first generation tracker so at this time tracker 18' may actually be more susceptible to the types of shock your exposing as you don't have an LPS option to help clean the data.

@VibrantNebula, Hi David, do you know if they plan to add the LPS option to the 2018 tracker firmware any time soon?

Question, how did you set this Airsoft gun to work with it's existing trigger system ?

Re: Vive Tracker Airsoft Gun Recoil (floating issues)

hi,

I plugged into its gearbox circuit and linked it back to the vive tracker signals .. It can obviously be done wirelessly too, but theres not much space in the gun around the gearbox even to host a arduino nano or a esp8266

regards

Re: Vive Tracker Airsoft Gun Recoil (floating issues)

We too are having the exact same issue being described here. It's very frustrating that our old (now retired) Vive Trackers seemed to be doing a much better job than the newer 2018 Trackers. We need to have this filtering in the firmware for 2018 Trackers, otherwise our solution is going to fail in a big way. We've tried mechanical solutions to reduce the impacts of this, by changing how we mount the trackers, but it's not an ideal solution. I can't believe this crucial feature in the original Tracker firmware is absent in the 2018 devices.

@VibrantNebula Can we get an official word from HTC on when this will be resolved, as it's now an urgent problem for us.

Hello maxrom,
If you can share your setup, may be I can help with the jitter.. what are you mounting it on? What kind of turbulence is expected?

Re: Vive Tracker Airsoft Gun Recoil (floating issues)

We're mounting to replica guns that have a fairly strong recoil when fired. We originally had them fixed directly to the weapons, but since moving over to 2018 Trackers, this is no longer a viable option. We've tried using foam bushes to reduce the shock, which has helped, but it's still not very good. We're looking at more mounting options, but ideally, we want the trackers mounted as cleanly as possible to the weapons, so we don't really want any large or bulky solutions. Using the foam bushes may be ok, if the 2018 Trackers performed as well as the older ones, hence hoping that HTC sort this problem out.

Re: Vive Tracker Airsoft Gun Recoil (floating issues)

We are currently running into the same issue here. Any word from HTC on an update for the 2018 tracker?

@PramodPatel
If you hooked the Vive Tracker directly into the gearbox how come it doesn't cook itself as the LiPo Battery of the Airsoft is like 11V?
