Wireless Adapter - SteamVR 108 Headset not detected

I've got the wireless adapter.  Vive Wireless connects to the headset fine, but SteamVR gives error 108 - Headset not detected.

Switching back to wired (link box) works fine. Placing my hand in front of the transmitter shows less bars of connectivity. Graphics drivers are updated, Windows is updated, I've re-installed SteamVR and Vive wireless.

Intel 6700K, GTX 1080 (SLI), Windows 10

The PCIe card is in a PCIe2 x1 slot.  It's less than convenient, but I have a PCIe3 x4 slot I have not tried yet.  I will try it tomorrow.

Otherwise, I'm out of ideas, and posting here in hopes someone else has another suggestion.

SteamVR raw log files can be found here - https://pastebin.com/PSqrmPzi

I've cut out a fair chunk of redundant or old info to fit the pastebin size limit.

I've also got some screenshots, showing Vive Wireless, SteamVR, and USB info.

@ThatOneCloud

First off, It looks like you're running it in extended mode. Try switching to direct mode in any case. Are you using only Vive supplied cables or are you trying to use 3rd party accessories?

Thank you,

Re: Wireless Adapter - SteamVR 108 Headset not detected

I tried switching to Direct Mode, Extended, and back -- no such luck.

I also switched the PCI card to a PCIe3 x4 slot, removing the SSD and disabling the second graphics card in case it was some PCI bandwidth issue.

The logs still look rather similar.  Not sure if these are of any relevance, or expected:

I see this under "Devices" in the SteamVR system report.  It calls it an Unknown Tracked Device.

Device 2 - Unknown Tracked Device Class DisplayLink_USB_6101-430Z187L03760
Device Path:	/devices/displaylink/DisplayLink_USB_6101-430Z187L03
Best Alias:	Invalid

In the room overview, the "unknown device" is there, but there are no bounds to be seen.  The logs mention not finding any lighthouse devices.

Driver lighthouse has no suitable devices.

(But the lighthouse drivers are there, and USB "Watchman Dongle" devices show in the list of USB devices)

No 3rd party accessories.  Using the short cables that came with the wireless adapter.

Thanks for the reply, appreciate the ideas.

Hey there @IrusVirus

I've read a couple posts where upgrading to Windows 10 worked for missing drivers.

But that can not be the "final solution" if the minimum requirements are met @ThatOneCloud

Re: Wireless Adapter - SteamVR 108 Headset not detected

@IrusVirus  Agreed, it's not an ideal solution, but possibly worth trying.  I'm in a similar boat.  The next thing I'll be trying is a fresh Windows 10 install on a spare drive.  Just to see if it makes a difference.  (Shouldn't need to authenticate the OS, even -- just a bare minimum trial.)

Re: Wireless Adapter - SteamVR 108 Headset not detected

@IrusVirus I tried a clean Windows 10 install, and it actually worked. I used a spare drive (you can also shrink a volume and create a new partition on an existing drive.) I only installed motherboard drivers, nvidia drivers, Steam, Steam VR, Beat Saber, and Vive Wireless.

I'd suggest trying similarly - don't wipe your existing drives, just do a minimalist test run.

I still want to try a few more things before I give in and do a clean install "for realsies".

Re: Wireless Adapter - SteamVR 108 Headset not detected

I am having this same exact problem. I really don't want to have to do a fresh install of windows, but I have tried everything else I can think of to get this to work.

I have a Vive Pro on windows 10, it works fine with out using the Vive wireless, but when pair with the wireless all I get is headset not found.

Re: Wireless Adapter - SteamVR 108 Headset not detected

I have the same problem, i have been using the Vive since it was released in EU without any issues.

But since i got the wireless addon I have had nothing but issues.

I can play for 1 maybe 3-4min tops and then i get a blue/grey screen in the vive, and giving the exact same errors as the OP is describing.

Sofar no luck with the described solutions (have not yet tried reinstalling windows yet).

Update:

Meanwhile I reinstalled windows, and to my surprise I could just play for 30min without any errors or glitches.

What I noticed was that after I installed the SteamVR software it told me there where updates for my vive /controllers. The update notice for the vive said something about wireless in the notes. The strange thing is that I checked that before i reinstalled windows and had no firmware updates for it. (bugged steamvr? / released since the reinstall?)

Lets hope it keeps working Smiley Happy

I am having exactly the same issue. I can play with wireless addon for 3-4 min like you and then i see error 108 on steam vr and undetected headset in vive wireless tool (but ready, and radio bar updating correctly if i hide the headset)

@Lupraen @ThatOneCloud @Furs @Draces @IrusVirus

I just want to confirm that we're on the latest GPU driver updates. It sounds like reinstalling SteamVR and SteamVR drivers might be helping too. Can anyone else reproduce those resolutions successfully?

Thanks,

Re: Wireless Adapter - SteamVR 108 Headset not detected

I have the lastest Nvidia drivers (416.16) and have already uninstalled SteamVR and all the vive driver and software and reinstalled them.

Tonight I may just try a fresh install of Windows 10.
