I have done the following
Confirmed my vive is working with being tethered
uninstalled a reinstalled steam vr
disconnected the link box
confirmed it was not the cord connecting from wirless unit to vive by tring tethered cord
I believe it may be to this driver not working. no drivers are showing up in steam vr under setting/usb

Please try to uninstall and re-install the VIVE Wireless first. If the issue still persists, please install DisplayLink driver maunually.(C:\Program Files\VIVE Wireless\DisplayLink\DisplayLinkXR.msi)

Do you still have the display cable (HDMI/MiniDP) plugged into your wired linkbox when attempting to use the adapter? If you have that cable plugged in, it will attempt to look for a wired HMD rather than reverting to wireless.

same problem here :
Wireless driver installed correctly.
HDM connected to Vive Wireless.
All cable unplugged from computer.
SteamVR error (208) : HMD not detected

No I was not. On Sunday Oct 7th I was chatting with tech support for two hours. we were unable to get it to work. They escalated my issue higher up and said I would hear back on the 8th. Havent heard back now and its the 10th. I'm about to return it.

Same Problem with the Vive Pro.
When i start Steam-VR i get Error 208 and sometimes 108.
I can connect it via cable and then plug it in the wireless-adapter "on the fly". Then Steam-VR say "OK" and i have wireless tracking, but the screen go black.

I finally managed to make it work (yeehaw !)
after spending hours messing around, uninstalling / reinstalling drivers of everything, softwares, plugin things in different orders, .. without any success, here is what seems to make it work :
I decided to try the wireless adapter with my "old" HTC Vive (non-pro) :
first try : same error messages (208)
I changed the Connection mode in the Vive Wireless application settings :
The default setting was mode 1 : I got a strong signal, but SteamVR always returned the error 208.
I changed to mode 2 : everything finally worked fine :-)
mode 3 : OK as well
returned to mode 1 (just for fun) ... : now it works (!)
Went back to my Vive Pro HMD :
still no luck (error 208), even when changing conenction modes.
I tried using the short cable provided with the wireless adapter (all my previous attempts were with the long cable originally provided with the Vive Pro)
(strangely, after swapping the cable, and restarting Vive Wireless, Windows found a new device and reinstalled drivers for the Vive... and then it finally worked.

Not really sure what's up with the channel 1 vs channel 2 thing, that may be a result of your local RF environment. The adapter really isn't designed to work with the long cable - it's a function of signal strength/amplification. It's actually quite difficult from a hardware standpoint to get Displayport to travel more than 2 meters reliably and the linkbox contains very specific amplification circuitry to enable the 5 meter wired cable to function. The circuitry of the adapter is only intended to be used with short cables.
Glad you're up and running!

Hey I just posted about how I got around this issue. Hopefully it works for you.
