How to move Viveport applications to another drive

After copying files I tried changing registry paths and grepping D:\HTC\Vive\ApplicationList with the new path but nothing works.

Please advise.

Re: How to move Viveport applications to another drive

Can you tell me more about the behavior you're seeing after moving the Viveport applications to the new file path? Is it that Viveport does not see the applications in the Library, or...?

If the issue is that they are missing from the Library, I would recommend changing the default app folder to see if that helps. You can do this in the Settings tab, and newly downloaded apps will be downloaded to the file path specified. If changing the Default App Folder setting/path to the file path you moved the already installed apps does not result in the apps being displayed in the Library, I would recommend uninstalling the apps and reinstalling them (with the new file path specified for the Default App Folder).

Hope this helps!

Re: How to move Viveport applications to another drive

There is another thread with this same problem here. This old thread was written in 2016. I'm writing in this thread as this topic seems more recent being written in 2017 - two months ago. I'm writing this as of 5_19_17 and it still seems to have this same bug.

When I go to setting in the Viveport app. There is the default location of:

c:\ProgramData\HTC\Vive

When I try to change it to:

D:\HTC\Vive\ViveApps

nothing happens.

I mean the file path will be chang in the UX but it does not actually follow the change. When I install an app it still goes to the default location of c:\ProgramData\HTC\Vive, even if I am to restart the application.

When I restart the Viveport app and go back to the Settings tab, the file path will be changed to the default location of c:\...etc etc. totally disregarding the file path change I inputted. I tried restarting this a couple of times and it does the same thing.

It would be cool if I could save to my secondary drive of D as my main drive C is getting filed up.

Any updates on this bug?

@Gremlin Are you on the latest build (r1060?). You shouldn't experince this under the latest build... If you are, ensure you're launching as an admin.

Re: How to move Viveport applications to another drive

Hi @critical error, for several versions now we've not seen reports of this issue outside of issues with window's privileges.  As stated above try running the Vive software as an administrator (by right clicking and choosing "run as administrator" before attempting to change the path. Ensure that you're changing the path to a place your user account has permission to write. When you exit and reenter Vive does the UI revert back to the original location on the C:\ drive?

Re: How to move Viveport applications to another drive

Hi!

Thanks for the advice. Use admin rights to load the Vive app (make sure is not already loaded, otherwise quit and re-check), then change the default folder, then start installing. It worked!

Re: How to move Viveport applications to another drive

I too have this very same problem... All the games are being stored on my smaller driver (C drive) and no matter how many times i instruct vive to save them else where, they still get saved on C drive... Incidentally, my C drive is now nearly full, thus i cant download any new games. :-(

Pleease help.

Re: How to move Viveport applications to another drive

@Von_Mitch

Have you tried the instructions above, specifically launching the Viveport client by right-clicking its exe and choosing "run as administrator"? That contiunes to be the most reliable way of getting Window's to accept the change. I think this function requires additional scrutiny and hopefully our QA system can figure out why this fails on some setups.

Re: How to move Viveport applications to another drive

     Hi @Von_Mitch

I have been unable to track down a reliable solution for you as this is a difficult problem to reproduce. It seems like it relates to the windows registry. I'll add it to our QA list in hopes that we can more exhaustively test it.

We may have a potential solution for you though! The client update that released this week (1.1.5) adds a "download wizard" which may be of us in your case. When a title is in your library and you hit "download", a new window will pop up which should allow you to change the install path. Given that your windows configuration is having trouble with keeping the correct option in place, I'd maybe refrain from using the "remember my choice" option to ensure that you can access the wizard in the future. Let us know if this works.
