Check out the one called TPcast. First shipments were supposed to go out any day now, but only in China and I don't know whether they did. There are supposed to be other units, too, but this one is the one I like. You still have to carry a battery in your pocket. One article I read thought these might improve substantially in a short time, so I may wait a year or two. By then it will probably be time for a whole new Vive.

Re: HTC wireless

I read yesterday that shipments won't be available in the US until sometime in September.

Re: HTC wireless

Is this the only option?

Are HTC not working on one?

Re: HTC wireless

No. There are several and I saw a post elsewhere that implied HTC was working on one of their own.

Re: HTC wireless

Curious to see how this turns out.  Obviosuly you are going to need a battery but still need to keep weight down at the same time as providing ample play time (ie id like atleast 5 hrs solid).  So from the battery you would need to power the screens, ir leds, mic, and the gigabit wirelesss for 5 hours.  Based on mobile phone usage this takes us maybe to the 6000mAh or greater.  On top of that I am hoping the final design allows quick changs to wired if you find power is low mid game.

Re: HTC wireless

+7ms delay sounds like too much?

@wOOOOt They're setting 7ms as the maximum latency for their solution under real world conditions. It will in all likelihood be faster, especially under ideal conditions. The TPCast devs set a similar goal for latency and their solution actually proved to have a lower latency than they initially advertised. By saying <7ms, Intel has set a realistic goal that they can then try to push further without over promising on a technology that is still very much in development.

Not really any new info here but Intel did a public demo of the solution last week.

Re: HTC wireless

But which is it going to be?

TPCast or Display Link Xr? - Are we not talking about 2 different potential solutions?

And just how is the last one going to fit on the new Deluxe Audio Head strap? It sits where the thightening-knob is...?

Re: HTC wireless

@wOOOOt  They are variations on similar technology. It will be up to consumers to select which solution works best for their specific situation. We're a very open and agnostic development platform and are working with numerous teams to generate a range of solutions that together help drive forward innovation in immersive tech. We're stoked to have Intel bringing their expertise to the table to help us kick-start the wireless revolution.

I can confirm that the DAS  is compatibled with the Intel prototype at this time (and thus the consumer version will likely be as well). I'm not 100% sure if the knob access is occluded but everyone I've asked about it said it wasn't an issue.

At least two. Right now I like the Display Link based on the (almost no) information I have except for a couple pictures and a video. No separate battery on the Display Link, which is amazing considering the HMD has to get its power there, too. I'd like to know projected run-time and charge time. Also, I don't know price. If we're talking $200, I'm in. Higher than that, I start getting cold feet.
