Steam VR fine but Vive platform won't work

Steam VR fine but Vive platform won't work

So I followed all the instructions set everything up. And played a couple games on steam VR. I only had minor issues with this like sometimes steam be home would freeze and not load, or if I press the system button it will open the menu and automatically select steam VR and close the menu instead of letting me look at it ( can post a recording of this if needed).

The biggest problem though is if I try to play ANY games on the vive application I just get stuck in a white room with nothing happening. Not sure why this is the case because I'm pretty sure I have everything setup correctly since steam games work perfect.

Any suggestions are appreciated. I really want to try some vive games.

Re: Steam VR fine but Vive platform won't work

Just a list of things I have tried.

Rebooting
Updating firmware for all devices
Updating video drivers
Re installing steam vr
Re installing vive application and re downloading games
Letting the game try to load for 30+ mins

Re: Steam VR fine but Vive platform won't work

I have the same problem. Not able to launch games from Vive. Tried everything I can think of, but did not bother with re downloading games.

The games also show up in steam but do nothing when clicked on.

I was able to play Star Trek BC.

Also smashed the hell out of my light shade (glass) hitting a beach ball at my VR home.

Shame it was not a VR light shade but the real thing...   whoops!

@RedFusion

Delete all five of the Vive related programs from Control Panel, and reboot your computer, then try reinstalling again, please.

Re: Steam VR fine but Vive platform won't work

I removed all Vive files with the add and remove menu.

Rebooted.

Reinstalled all Vive files at vive.com/setup.

Rebooted.

Still same result. If i launch Everest VR or Richie's Plank Experience it brings me immediately to a white room. Then nothing happens. It doesn't try to launch anything I don't see any loading. Just a white room.

Also computer specs if that matters.

I-7 7700K
GTX 1080
32GB of RAM
2x SSDs in one virtual disk
4x HDD in two virtual disks

Re: Steam VR fine but Vive platform won't work

Deleted programes and games then re installed just one game.

Press open and same result, nothing.

Game shows up in steam and tried to launch it from there and nothing.

I can play Star trek BC ok,  so set up is fine.

Edit after another restart and still not working decided to download the plank game.

Then I noticed Grave VR was working.

So seems ok now... will test the plank game and then download others and post how I got on.

PS got to learn not to scream out load at 1:40 am (re Grave VR)

lol lol, I smashed a bulb above my head throwing a basket ball in the rec room.  Also knocked over a pint over a HDD Smiley Very Happy

Curious are you launching the games from within the headset or the PC.  If I try and load them from the headset they do nothing, if I click open on the PC then the generally launch.  I also find after I have run it once it then appears in my steam library.

Re: Steam VR fine but Vive platform won't work

I suggest trying this as well. Last weeks SteamVR update broke a lot of the cross-functionality between the SteamVR and Vive ecosystems; our engineers are currently sorting that out. Some applications just launch poorly in general. I've had issues with EverestVR that matched your symptoms. Many apps need to be the "active focus" to properly work inside the HMD, however, sometimes the launcher doesn't make the game window the active one so you have to manually select the game window to make it the active window. I have to do this with EverestVR every time or I am stuck in a white room.  Maybe that's related to your troubles?

Re: Steam VR fine but Vive platform won't work

First off everything seems to be working now.

I launch the games from PC to start with. If it starts I look into the headset to make sure its not just a white room (this way due to, was fed up keep taking the thing off all the time as was just getting white room all the time).  After that if I do not need a break I launch from headset.

@MagicTyrant, I'm glad everything is working now, did you do anything specific that fixed your issue in case others may be facing similar issues?

Re: Steam VR fine but Vive platform won't work

Only thing new I tried (after removing all games unplugging and reinstalling drivers) was installed one game at a time (not queued).

What do you mean by selecting the window? Just clicking on it on the monitor or how did you fix it? I have this problem with almost all my games :/

Re: Steam VR fine but Vive platform won't work

I have the same problem.

Steam VR programs are working fine, but Vive platform programs do not start.

Also If a Vive program is tried to start, my PC s running slowly. The task manager can be started, but it takes time. Using the task manager I can delete all vive related programs from memory and then the PC is OK again.

Is there already a good solution available ?

Re: Steam VR fine but Vive platform won't work

@Berry

One thing you want to make sure, is that you disable your anti-virus or white-list Vive software (all of it) and make sure you're running the program (right-click, run as administrator) as an admin.
