So i got a pair of HTC vive lighthouse sensor, i wonder what is the maximum area it could cover without losing much accuracy?

The limiting factor in current gen lighthouses is the IR sync flash and not the laser sweeps. The sweeps can go pretty far depending on environmental factors but the IR flashes are limited to ~20 feet. When aiming for larger areas, always use the sync cable, mount a bit higher off the ground and pointed more downward, and use this FOV tool to maximize your laser sweep coverage and ensure you don't have dead spots. I've seen areas as large as 20 meters tracked with the current lighthouse tech. This video where Alan Yates explains lighthouse tech is also very helpful in understanding things like coverage.

1) Sorry for forgetting the units. I meant 20 square meters. Yesterday Joe from Valve released a bit of information about lighthouse 2.0 and said that they're initially only targeting support for 4 lighthouses with a coverage of 10x10 meters for launch.
2) You can probably just couple two sync cables together if you have them handy. I can't speak to wireless solutions. I do know that the S:N ratio of the signal can be a little lower than audio applications since the sync pulse doesn't need to be high fidelity.
3) It's mostly reflections and occlusion that are your enemies. IR interference in the 850nm range can also count against the S:N ratio of the laser system. Polished floors are a huge environment factor.
4) You'll need to experiment to figure out what works in your environment. Technically anything beyond a 3 meter diagonal setup is beyond our specs and thus is "unsupported" officially.

With the current base stations technically 16.4 feet between the base stations - but some have been able to accomplish 25-30 feet with the sync cable (which is 60ft)
